Do You Need To Have One Maid/Matron of Honor Only?

Do You Need To Have One Maid/Matron of Honor Only?

Now that you’re engaged, it’s time to pick your bridal party. With that comes choosing a Maid or Matron of Honor, or does it? What if you can’t pick just one Maid or Matron of Honor? Can you have more than one? If you’re having trouble deciding who should be your Maid or Matron of Honor or are scared to choose because you know it will probably create some drama, there are some alternatives that you can take.

Keep reading for advice on how to handle the Maid or Matron of Honor dilemma that you might encounter.

Have More Than One Maid or Matron of Honor

If you cannot choose just one person, it is perfectly okay to have more than one Maid or Matron of Honor. You can also have a Maid of Honor and a Matron of Honor if the two people you’re choosing from fall under those titles. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because it lets the ladies share the duties, which can make it less stressful for everyone involved!

Don’t Have a Wedding Party

If you can’t choose just one Maid or Matron of Honor and know it might cause a fiasco, you can also opt for not having a wedding party at all. Some brides are going this route if they have a large family or social circle and know that feelings will be hurt if certain people aren’t included in the bridal party, let alone the Maid/Matron of Honor role. This is not only less stressful for you since there is no one to manage, but it can also be less stressful for your friends who can just enjoy the wedding as guests and not spend a lot of money on being a bridesmaid.

Don’t Have a Maid or Matron of Honor

If you cannot choose between ladies for the Maid or Matron of Honor title, it’s okay to not choose one at all. This is a good way to avoid the drama associated with choosing one person over the other. Plus, it’s a way to show your bridal party that they’re all equally important to you. Then, you can let the whole bridal party share in the responsibilities of a Maid/Matron of Honor and keep everyone involved and engaged.

Don’t Use Traditional Titles

If you want to change things up completely, you can also stray from the traditional titles altogether. Instead of bridesmaids or naming a Maid/Matron of Honor, switch things up! Call the group the “bridal brigade” or “ladies in waiting.”

This is particularly useful for same-sex couples or couples with mixed groups that might have a few guys and girls in each of the bridal parties. You can call them “bridesmen” or “groomswomen.”  Whatever you decide to do, just have fun with it!
