Fitness for Soon-to-be Brides and Grooms

Most people want to look and feel their best on their wedding day. Often this means people either start working out or ratchet up their normal workout routine to get in prime shape for the wedding. If you are looking to lose a little bit of weight before your wedding or simply want to feel healthier, it’s important to start early and couple workouts with healthy eating, lots of water, and plenty of sleep. Keep reading for fitness tips for soon-to-be brides and grooms!

Six Months Out From the Wedding

Six months before your wedding, you should start slow. You don’t want to launch right into an intense workout routine that might lead to burnout or injury a week in. Instead, ease into your workout plan. Try to commit to at least 30 minutes of cardio two to three times a week. This can include jumping rope, cycling, running, jogging, or even fast walking. Then, slowly incorporate strength training into your workout. Work some leg, arm, and core exercises into your workout to ensure you’re hitting every area of the body.

3 -5 Months Before the Wedding

After getting a month or so of workouts under your belt, you should feel a bit stronger and ready to take on more of a workout. This is a good time to add in an extra day or two of exercise. Instead of working out 2 to 3 days a week, shoot for at least 4 days. And, instead of simple exercises like squats, crunches, and pushups, try to mix things up by adding in a group exercise class or some other cross-training like kayaking or mountain biking. Not only will mixing up the routine train different muscles, but it helps keep you engaged and motivated.

2 Months Before Wedding

Once you’ve been working out for several months, you can either maintain that threshold or ramp things up. If you’re ready to push things further, try 40 minutes of cardio instead of 30 or add in extra reps or sets during your strength training. But make sure you’re listening to your body and rest when necessary!

The Week Of

The week of your wedding, you should dial back the workouts a bit. Exercising is a great stress reliever so if you want to keep working out that’s great but try to be a bit more conservative in your workouts to avoid injury and dial back so you’re not sore on the big day!
