Spring Wedding Trends: Making Your Own Traditions

While every season can make for the perfect weather to compliment your wedding–from a fresh winter snow to the many colors of fall and summer–there’s nothing quite like spring. With the snow melting and flowers blooming, spring represents a time of rebirth and new beginnings, perfect themes to serve as the backdrop to your wedding. Now that we’re finally in the season and have started to see some of the many special spring weddings we have scheduled for the next three months, here are some of our favorite trends of the season, which point towards the rise of personalization and couples making their own traditions.

Rustic Remix: While the rustic look has been a staple of trendy wedding for the past couple of years, lately we’ve seen an inspiring revision of this trend as couples move from the barn into open spaces. This is a trend perfectly suited for ceremonies on our expansive grounds with verdant plant life.

Registry Realism: Another trend that we’re seeing in the behavior of our guests is a move away from traditional registries, focused on providing couples with the essentials they need to begin their lives together, towards more aspirational and fun goals, like a Honeymoon Registry with guests providing funds and accessories for a couple’s honeymoon. Even with couples that have stuck with a traditional registry, we are seeing more untraditional gifts like bespoke board games from Etsy.com, hiking equipment, or other gifts that emphasize quality and thoughtfulness.

Story Cake: Moving from gifts to everyone’s favorite part of the wedding, cakes have also started to become more personalized as couples ditch wedding white for cakes that tell the story of their relationship, whether through favorite quotes iced onto the side or an actual retelling of how they met.

The New Traditional: Recently a leading wedding publication polled recently-married women all over the country asking them how they would describe their wedding day. The top answer? “Unique.” In the age of social media where everyone’s weddings are being photographed and recorded for the world to see, more and more couples are wanting to stand out from the pack and have a theme or element to their wedding that is all their own.

Different Food: Ending our list focused on the stomach, the banquet plates and traditional wedding food of days past is no more. As evidenced by the trend with cakes, couples are personalizing wherever they can and that involves the food. More and more we’re seeing couples leave tradition behind and pick a menu that truly reflects their love, manifested in favorite dishes symbolic of different periods in their relationship.

Overall, we’re seeing couples less concerned about having a by-the-numbers wedding and instead adding personal touches at every level, from the decor straight through to the food.
